When employees are working in or on lifeboats, it should be secured in a way that ensures it does not fall.



Illumination
Potential Hazards:

Injuries may occur when:

  • Workers fall out of lifeboats.
  • The lifeboat is released with workers inside.

Requirements and Example Solutions:

  • Before workers are permitted to work in or on a lifeboat, the lifeboat must be secured to prevent accidental release. [29 CFR 1915.96(a)]
  • Workers must not work on the outboard side unless the lifeboat is secured. [29 CFR 1915.96(c)]
