Overview
The OSHA and Gilbane Building Company Alliance is providing Gilbane's employees and others in the
construction industry with information, guidance, and access to training resources to help protect
employees' health and safety. particularly in reducing and preventing exposure to fall hazards.

Training and Education
- Provide expertise to OSHA to develop safety and health curricula on fall prevention, and to
provide expertise in communicating such information to employers and employees in the industry. In
addition, Gilbane Building Company will conduct two (2) 30-hour construction safety courses during
each year of the Alliance to Gilbane employees, others in the construction industry and OSHA
representatives.
The OSHA and Gilbane Alliance Implementation Team has not started work on programs or projects to
address this goal.
Outreach and Communication
- Work with OSHA to provide expertise in developing information on the recognition and prevention of
workplace hazards, and to provide expertise in developing ways of communicating such information to
employers and employees in the industry.
Products
OSHA and Gilbane Alliance Web Site
OSHA developed an OSHA and Gilbane Alliance Web site that is posted on the Agency's Web page that
includes the OSHA and Gilbane Alliance agreement, news releases, and milestones and successes. This
Web site is updated on a regular basis.
Publications and Newsletters
Information and news releases on the OSHA and Gilbane Alliance signing and the activities of the
Alliance have appeared in publications such as Occupational Safety and Health
eNews and Gilbane Bulletin. For more information on the articles, see the
"Alliance Program Reach" table.
- Work with other Alliance participants on construction industry issues and projects that are
addressed and developed through the Alliance Program.
The OSHA and Gilbane Alliance Implementation Team has not started work on programs or projects to
address this goal.
- Share information among OSHA personnel and industry safety and health professionals regarding
Gilbane Building Company's best practices or effective approaches and publicize results through
outreach by Gilbane Building Company and through OSHA – or Gilbane Building Company's developed
materials, training programs, workshops, seminars and lectures (or any other applicable forum).

Promoting the National Dialogue on Workplace Safety and Health
- Convene or participate in forums and round table discussions to help forge construction safety and
health innovative solutions to employee safety and health issues in the workplace.

- Raise awareness through speeches and appearances and demonstrate Gilbane's commitment to workplace
safety and health whenever the company's leaders address groups.

- Executive Summary
In September 2004, OSHA and Gilbane formed a national Alliance to protect construction employees'
health and safety, particularly in reducing and preventing exposure to fall hazards. Gilbane
developed a banner for their worksites in order to promote the Alliance Program. The banner includes
the OSHA, Alliance Program and Gilbane logos and reads, "Working Together for Safety."
Through the Alliance, OSHA created an OSHA - Gilbane Alliance Web page on the OSHA's Web site. The
Web page includes links to the OSHA and Gilbane Alliance agreement, OSHA news releases, a photograph
of the signing ceremony, activities and events, products and resources, and milestones and
successes. In addition, information about the OSHA – Gilbane Alliance also appeared in print and
online articles.

IV. Upcoming Milestones
Gilbane is participating in the Fall Protection Workgroup that was created at the OSHA Alliance
Program Construction Roundtable on July 8, 2004. The workgroup is currently reviewing the draft Fall
Protection safety tip sheets for employers and employees.
In addition, the implementation team will continue discussions regarding the future of the OSHA and
Gilbane Alliance and potential collaborative activities.
