Overview
The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and the Northeast
Florida Safety Council (NEFSC) formed the NEFSC Alliance to provide the
Northeast Florida Safety Council members and others with information, guidance,
and access to training resources that will help them protect employees’ health
and safety. This Alliance will also serve to educate Florida employers about the
value-added to business by voluntarily implementing an effective safety and
health management system.

The implementation team consisted of representatives from the Northeast Florida
Safety Council and the OSHA Area Office in Jacksonville, Florida.

III. Events and Products
Training and Education
Events
- The Safety Council trained 160 supervisors on Work Zone Safety through
training programs that they developed, and an additional 10 students completed
refresher training for Work Zone Safety.
- Recordkeeping and Safety and Health Program training was given on the
following dates:
- November 28, 2007
- May 6, 2007
- Eight OSHA 10-hour construction courses were held with 60 employees
completing the classes. The Construction Safety training course includes Work
Zone Safety hazard awareness
- The Northeast Florida Safety Council held 36 NCCER (National Center for
Construction Education Research) classes titled, "Construction Site Safety
Orientation", for 1147 students. Work Zone Safety hazard awareness is part of
the training.
- The Northeast Florida Safety Council held one Department of Transportation
(DOT) Seminar for 14 employees during which Work Zone Safety hazard awareness
was discussed.
- Attended two "SHADCO" (the Sheriff’s Advisory Council) safety fairs at the
Regency and Avenues Malls in Jacksonville, and staffed a booth to provide
information on the council, Work Zone Safety, and OSHA. Approximately 700
attended both events.
- Three "Response and Recovery to Natural and Manmade Disaster Seminars" were
held in conjunction with Florida Community College at Jacksonville through a
Susan Harwood OSHA Grant. There were nine participants.
- Twelve Supervisor Leadership Development Classes with a concentration on
safety were held with 383 students completing the classes.

Events
- Published an article titled, "It’s not just dust…. It could explode!" in
the July 2008 Council newsletter.
- The "Penalty Box" section of the Council newsletter was published in every
monthly issue, and it contained recent violations and penalties that were
issued by the Jacksonville OSHA office.

V. Upcoming Milestones
- The Northeast Florida Safety Council and OSHA are looking into ways to
continue to expand upon the message of fleet safety.
- The Jacksonville OSHA office will be helping the Northeast Florida Safety
Council by submitting safety-related articles and OSHA news for their
newsletter. The main focus of these articles would be awareness for employees
to wear their seatbelts when driving for their employers, and other timely
topics.
- The Jacksonville OSHA office will continue to provide to the Council
on a monthly basis copies of citations that were issued to employers with
worksites in the Council’s coverage area. This information will eventually be
published in their newsletter in the "Penalty Box" section.
