C. Overview
The OSHA and ABC, Heart of America Alliance was established to create a collaborative relationship to foster safety and more healthful American workplaces. The goals of the Alliance are to provide ABC, Heart of America Chapter, members and others with information, guidance, and access to training resources that will help protect the health and safety of workers, particularly by reducing and preventing exposure to struck-by, falls, caught in between and electrical hazards, addressing construction and industrial contractor issues, and understanding the rights of workers and the responsibilities of employers under the Occupational Safety and Health Act (OSH Act). In developing the Alliance goals, OSHA and ABC, Heart of America Chapter, recognizes that OSHA’s State Plan and On-site Consultation Project partners are an integral part of the OSHA national effort.

III. Events and Products
Training and Education
- OSHA publications and information were provided to Alliance membership.
- OSHA 10 hour training sessions were conducted on multiple occasions.
- Numerous STEP (Safety Training and Evaluation Process) education workshops were conducted.
- Confined Space in Construction guidance provided to members when the rule was announced.
Product
- OSHA Fatal Facts were distributed to heighten awareness of workplace fatality investigations.
- ABC leadership provides the ABC Year in Review booklet which reinforces a zero-incident philosophy.
- OSHA initiatives are addressed through hand out materials made available to membership, as well as through the organization’s member newsletter.
Outreach and Communication
- 10/14/2015 ABC Safety Day in Kansas City
Promoting the National Dialogue on Workplace Safety and Health
- Active participation in National Safety Stand-Down in Construction in 2015 and 2016.
- Committee membership supported Worker’s Memorial Day events for both years.
- Heat stress and construction exposure is a topic which is addressed and communicated during months of summer.
IV. Results
The ABC, Heart of America Chapter members, have fostered a close working relationship with OSHA and have benefitted from a mutually supportive Alliance providing greater access to outreach information and guidance on work place safety and regulatory compliance.

V. Upcoming Milestones
The Alliance plans to continue to strive to meet the goals for the next evaluation year and renewal of the Alliance.
- Continue Monthly Safety Committee Meetings.
- Continue to provide ABC Training Facility Safety Evaluation each semester.
- Increase STEP Award Participation through promotion and outreach.
- Conduct a Safety Seminar on new emerging trends, focus four, fall protection or other safety topic.
- List major planned activities, products and issues that the Alliance plans to work on during the next reporting period.
