Speaker Notes:
When employees are traveling, an injury or illness that occurs while the employee is engaged in
work activities for the employer is considered work-related.
Travel to and from customer contacts and entertaining or being entertained at the direction of the
employer are work-related. For example, if an employee falls in the airport while on a business
trip, the case is work-related.
When an employee checks into a hotel or motel, he/she establishes a "home away from home." While
they’re in that “home away from home” status, cases that occur are not work-related. For example,
if an employee slips in the hotel shower and is injured, the case is not work-related.
Likewise, if the employee takes a side trip while in transit for a vacation, to go sightseeing or
shopping, etc., and is injured, the case is not work-related.
