OSHA regulations do require that certain equipment be approved or "certified" by a nationally recognized testing laboratory.

OSHA regulations do not specify the particular product safety standard(s) to which the equipment must conform. Such standards are specified by an NRTL as part of its application for recognition. OSHA then determines that such standards are "appropriate."
