Speaker Notes: Acute exposures involve a single exposure or multiple exposures
within a short period of time, 24 hours of less. Acute exposures to very high
concentrations of silica may occur in some occupations such as sandblasting or
in foundries and may result in rapidly developing cases of silicosis with the
above symptoms appearing early in a worker's career.
